Carousel Workshop

Hello everyone,

Just wanted to let you know that recently we had the pleasure of performance arts charity, Carousel, join us for almost a month, and deliver exciting and innovative workshops.

The overall concept was for our Tuesday RAOK group to develop and produce a Radio advert about their local city, Portsmouth, to an audience who may not be familiar with the activities on offer in PO4.

Week One began with our RAOK group first brainstorming ideas of what Portsmouth means to one another, as well as explaining a handful of fond memories, from their childhood. The purpose of this day was for everyone in the group to have the platform to express themselves, and begin working towards the advert, in a way that was easiest for them to do so.

Week Two consisted of our service users then putting together a handful of different hypothetical scenarios, which involved at least three celebrities, and a handful of local attractions within Portsea Island, which would be acted out that day. This activity allowed for everyone who wished to take part begin to develop their confidence in acting to their peers, and individuals within the group, and also, develop their reading voice.

Week Three was sadly the final week of the workshop, however, was the culmination of our RAOK group’s hard work, as it was the recording day of the Radio Advert! Hannah and Isobel worked extremely hard in this activity, and thanks to the amazing editing and support of the Carousel Team, we are delighted to be able to show you all the finished Radio Advert below.

Gareth and his wonderful team of volunteers deliver workshops that are engaging, inclusive, and adaptable for almost anyone that would be willing to give them a go. Carousel really do go above and beyond in their efforts to ensure that everyone is included in the activities on the day, and it was a pleasure meeting everyone for almost a month. Would highly recommend any schools, colleges or other educational, or care setting to pursue a workshop with Carousel!
